Winnipeg Free Press - ONLINE EDITION
The Bi-Polar Buddha himself was a no-show on this particular standup show due to an unspecified emergency. But in true show-must-go-on spirit, his not inconsiderable shoes were bravely filled by Edmonton expat Ryan Ash, who gamely emceed the shows in front of a disappointingly small crowd.
Dr. Rachel Sommer started slow, but got a lot of laughs with her optometry humour and deadpan wit.
Never in danger of being mistaken for Arrested Development’s Gob Bluth, Anders the Magician’s hugely entertaining set exhibited not only his masterful magic chops, but his delightfully deft handling of audience participation.
Rounding out the show, Chantal Marostica brought a much-appreciated dose of edgy spontaneity. Heather Witherden, also scheduled to appear, did not.
All in all, despite the no-shows and some programming issues, this was a solid night of standup comedy.
