Winnipeg Free Press - ONLINE EDITION
The Box Office
Jerry Jennings works in the coffin-like ticket kiosk at an off-Broadway play called Jelly Beans. He’s stuck in the crazy-making job and in a bad relationship with his snooty boyfriend.
Through a series of one-way phone conversations with his best friend and his almost-ex-boyfriend — interrupted by some annoyingly funny calls from theatre-goers — Jerry talks himself into starting fresh.
Winnipeg’s W.T. Grogan gives an endearingly queenie performance, and there’s some good laughs, but the action (or lack of it) makes it a little static. And the central conceit, the one-sided phone calls, give us a slightly one-dimensional sense of Jerry’s emotional journey. When Jerry quits whining, Grogan is delightful. You wish you knew him better.

From the official Fringe Festival program:
What would you do if you had spent the last seven years in the same box in downtown Manhattan saying, "JELLYBEANS, CAN I HELP YOU?" all day? And you broke up with your boyfriend on your birthday. You too would probably have a bit of a meltdown and ponder a future with a few different possibilities.
