The Donnelly Sideshow
PTE Colin Jackson Studio (Venue 17), to Sunday
Storyteller Jeff Culbert grew up in Lucan, Ont., immersed in the small town’s history, including the infamous Donnelly murders of 1880. In the one-man production The Donnelly Sideshow, he adopts the persona of Johnny O’Connor, the boy who witnessed the atrocity and lived.
The Donnelly murders were once the talk of the entire country. And while there were always whispers about who did it and whether the Donnellys had it coming, it is certain that justice was never served through the trials of the accused or the subsequent stories. With guitar in hand and his folksy (but never corny) manner, the easygoing Culbert draws the audience in with the whole story and does a fine job of detailing the fascinating events, right from the time the Donnellys settled in Canada to the night of the brutal murders.

From the official Fringe Festival program:
Johnny O'Connor was the boy who hid under the bed during the Donnelly murders of 1880. Now he's back, all grown up, packing a guitar and ready to set the record straight about the Donnellys. A new solo show, with songs written and performed by Jeff Culbert, the creator of archy and mehitabel.
