Winnipeg Free Press - ONLINE EDITION

The Fabulous Four

When gay nightclub Woodpecker’s is burned down, The Fabulous Four — a quartet that has been given superpowers by a mutant vaccine — track down Dr. Domination, a masked villain who’s trying to tear the gay community apart.

This play by the Winnipeg company who brought you It’s a Gay Gay Gay Gay World has a silly premise, a scattershot plot and … well, who cares when it’s this much fun? There’s a serious message about homophobia at the core, but any time there’s a well-muscled guy in leather hotpants who’s wielding the power of seduction, you’re in for a good time.

Unfortunately, the program doesn’t say which actor plays what character, but they all acquit themselves well. The dance choreography is exuberant but semi-sloppy; however, the fabulous slo-mo battle scenes are expertly done. The highlight may be the dance number that proves there’s no superhero stronger than the choreography for Beyoncé’s Single Ladies.
