The Goodtimes

If this Toronto husband-and-wife team put half as much effort into tightening its shtick as it does into branding and merchandising, this could be genuine fringe fun.

Instead, Ian and Lindsay Goodtimes (yup, their real names) rely too much on their obvious charm and talent and not enough on strong content to make this “electro-vaudeville spectacle” really sparkle.

The duo, two space entertainers who start out in puffy comic-book costumes, pledged to write a ditty a day for a year, and we hear a few on stage. They have natural comic timing and are fine musicians — Lindsay has a great bluesy voice and Ian does a mock Meatloaf with gusto. The song about rats in the toilet is a gem. If there were more bits like that, it could would work. Instead it’s a lot of microphone swinging to songs with one punchline.

Some raunch. Under 18 not admitted.
