Started well. Downhill from there.
And that’s surprising from this local improv troupe made up of some well-known local fringe vets — Brent Hirose, Shawn Kowalke and Luke Falconer.
The unique conceit here is that each friend can be horrible once per show by forcing his fellow players to sing the rest of a scene. Buoyed by a vocal and friendly audience Thursday evening, the trio got off to a strong, witty start with some traditional short-form improv games, like freeze tag. The friends are best when they’re at their most physical, but they quickly got bogged down in rambling stories that never quite got to the kind of "how-did-they-think-of-that?" moment that makes improv so fun.
The final long-form improv lagged, and it’s maybe not the best sign when the most genuine laughs are spawned by audience members bashing the players with big plastic bats.
As their fringe histories prove, these guys can do better.
