The Last Goddamned Performance Piece
Pity the performance artists. Perennially portrayed as black-clad, über-earnest and incomprehensible, they’re always ripe for the comic plucking at the fringe, of all places.
Winnipeg’s Anne Wyman (2008’s pornSTAR) and Bradley Van Schie mock the form as Raine (Wyman) and Skye, the last two players standing in what was once an 11-member troupe called UMI, for Uninterrupted Mental Interference.
But their nonsensical performance piece, which has something to do with traversing the non-space between the present and past and possibly the future, continually devolves into public recriminations over their recent breakup.
Penned for Wyman by ubiquitous fringer Jayson McDonald, the show artfully marries the faux performance piece to the couple’s bickering.
Onstage, Skye and Raine perform a dysfunctional parody in which a woman temporarily takes her separation-anxiety-suffering son back into the womb. In their so-called real life, Skye frets over Raine’s absence and accuses her of pushing people out of her life.
Nice work, and Skye and Raine seem like a sweet couple, but their relationship drama is not all that interesting.

From the official Fringe program:
This very last performance piece by U.M.I. is scheduled to be interrupted by a complete disintegration of the proceedings due to emotional instability arising from recent events involving a certain ass-faced ex-boyfriend.
