The Progressive Polygamists: the Sweetest Reformers

This featherweight spoof of pious, chipper “sister wives” from polygamist “Plentiful,” B.C., is exactly the kind of fringe comedy that gets an inflated reputation as “hilarious” when in fact it’s just amusing.
Vancouver’s Emmelia Gordon and Pippa Mackie act and sing with aplomb as repressed Eden and airhead Mercy, the first and seventh wives of an elderly “prophet.”
The weakness is in their half-baked material, which relies on broad sexual humour and religious mockery, missing the sharp satire and rich character comedy that could have been mined from the subject.
The show runs 45 minutes, rather than 60 as billed. Maybe the sister wives were too busy procreating to bake up a full batch of laughs.
