The Secondhandpants Science-Folktion Musical Adventure

Duo Curtis and Marlon Wiebe here announce themselves as the heirs apparent to Al Simmons’ brand of gadget-heavy, DIY, kid-friendly comedy.
This elaborate one-hour music-comedy-sci-fi-thriller ups the technical ante of Simmons’ oeuvre as characters interact with robots, a Commander Cody-like rocket-man (let it be said these guys totally appreciate the intrinsic hilarity of Commander Cody) and a benign, hairless female sasquatch. They even interact with the movie screen cleverly utilized as an all-purpose backdrop as the musical duo embark on a time-travel adventure to save themselves from selling out in the future.
Curtis strums a mean ukulele and Marlon wails on a space-age variation of the washtub bass with aplomb. They and their supporting cast are a little rough around the edges as actors, and the sheer technical scale of the thing inevitably results in a few glitches. Nevertheless, this is one production that makes good on the promise of fun for the whole family, teen smartasses included.
