Winnipeg’s Drive Dance has kicked into high gear with its fourth annual production, Timeless — a program of unabashed beauty so powerfully moving that it drove the audience to tears.

Co-founded in 2010 by Kathleen Hiley, Arlo Reva, and Robyn Thomson Kacki, the troupe showcases contemporary works gifted to them by renowned choreographers Stephanie Ballard and Gaile Petursson-Hiley.

The six retrospective pieces include the luscious Cherry Blossom Pink and The Beating of Wings, where angels are born right before our eyes. Three dramatic solos: Feathers; Twilight; and Mini allow each dancer to take her turn in the spotlight.

But wicked humour also abounds. Conversations on a Chair sees the entire, tuxedo-clad ensemble morph into ego-crazed maestros. Choreographed set changes also drew gales of laughter as four male guest dancers cleared chairs or swept away rose petals.

It’s every performer’s dream to stir the hearts and minds of their viewers. This gorgeous show does just that, while putting beauty squarely in the driver’s seat.

— Holly Harris

From the Fringe program:

With beauty, wit and athleticism, Drive Dance takes the audience on a fast paced ride into the dynamic world of modern dance.

Timeless strikes your deepest senses with highly physical, emotionally charged, and stimulating choreography.

The young and energetic ensemble performed to sold out houses, earning 5 Stars from CBC Manitoba and 4 Stars from Winnipeg Free Press and Uptown as well as Best of Fest in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
