It’s a testament to Lindsay Mullan’s and Jamie Northan’s chemistry and spunk that they consistently got their smallish weekday late-night crowd laughing. Both enter their improv version of a basement-party staple with infectious enthusiasm and a disarming honesty as they work to strike sparks off each other’s wits.
The setup is as simple as you remember from junior high, though missing the palm-sweating queasiness: Northan and Mullan face down truth-and-dare challenges, with scenes flowing from the results for 60 minutes. And while the improv is deft, leaning heavily on mental rather than physical comedy, the real heart of the show is watching two friends hang out. There are as many laughs between scenes as inside them.
The duo bump up against a limited range of relationship dynamics — two bodies only go so far — and a light crowd off which to feed. With local improv heavyweights joining future shows, both issues should take care of themselves.
