Yards of Reports
Over the last few decades, there have been many, many words written about moving the CP rail yards. Here’s a smattering of the studies we’ve stumbled upon:
- Dreaming big dreams? (PDF, 153 KB)
Inner-city expert Jim Silver says moving the CP Rail yards is "not even close" to the best way to solve Winnipeg’s entrenched poverty problem. In fact, says the University of Winnipeg professor, if solving poverty is one of the goals, there are dozens of cheaper, more effective ways to spend the millions it would take to move the tracks and develop the yards.

The Social Planning Council of Winnipeg’s pitch to all three levels of government to launch a feasibility study on moving the rail yards.
- Asia Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative: Report and Recommendations (PDF, 254 KB)
A 2007 report co-authored by Winnipeg businessman Art DeFehr that deals with larger rail issues in Winnipeg, including the relocation of rail yards.

Premier Greg Selinger’s 1985 academic paper for the University of Manitoba's social work program provides an excellent blow-by-blow of the battle over the rail yards in the late 1970s.
- The yard: Exploring integral urban design (PDF, 6 MB)
Jeff Frank, a local landscape architect with the firm Hilderman Thomas Frank Cram, created a plan for the CP Rail yards in 1984 as part of his Master's thesis. It emphasises urban agriculture and productive land.
