Nearly 34K have cast ballots in advance polls so far

Voters are flocking to the polls in higher numbers in this election so far, compared with 2007.

After four days of advance voting, about 33,700 Manitobans have cast their ballots in the 2011 provincial election, Elections Manitoba said this morning. That compares with 42,775 votes cast over seven days of advance voting in the 2007 election.

Advance voting continues until this Saturday, October 1.

Advance voting is available for any voter who would like to vote before election day next Tuesday. Any eligible voter can vote in advance and no special reason is required. In addition, they do not have to vote within their electoral division.

Advance voting locations are open daily at the returning office in each electoral division and in various other locations. Voters can visit the Elections Manitoba website to find locations near them. Most advance voting locations are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The voter must show government-issued photo identification or two other documents with their name. Parents are invited to bring their children with them when they vote.
