Assiniboia is considered a swing riding.
Between 1962 and 1999 it bounced between the Tories and Liberals. The NDP won it for the first time in 1999 when Jim Rondeau claimed a victory by just three votes over Tory cabinet minister Linda McIntosh.
Rondeau has solidified his support in the riding however, claiming victory in 2007 by almost 2,500 votes.
The Conservatives are putting up a strong name in Olympic silver medallist speed skater Susan Auch, making this a riding to watch.
