Southdale was created in 1999, resulting from the booming suburban growth in South Winnipeg.
Jack Reimer held it for the Tories for almost two decades, and it was considered a relatively safe seat for the PCs.
But the NDP turned that upside down in 2007 in one of the more surprising upset wins. Former local television personality Erin Selby claimed the seat.
Selby was recently promoted to cabinet as advanced education minister, likely to up her visibility ahead of what is expected to be a tough election battle between her and the Tories’ Judy Eastman.
The riding has one of the best turnouts of any in the province.
Erin Selby, NDP 5,772
Jack Reimer, PC 4,493
Don Woodstock, LIB 1,042
Turnout: 65.74 per cent
