Hope: the perfect gift for everyone

Hours after United Way of Winnipeg announced a shortfall in our 2009 fundraising campaign, Winnipeggers responded with a flood of generosity.

People are literally walking in off the street to deliver donations in person; organizations throughout the city are reopening their workplace campaigns and topping up corporate donations to United Way. We received over $11,000 in online donations this weekend alone.

There's very little time remaining and we still have over $1.1 million to raise, but your outpouring of generosity is a celebration of the spirit of this season.

Keep it up! No gift is too small. Even if you've never made a donation to United Way before, make this year the first time.

What you are really giving is the opportunity for children and youth to realize their potential, the chance for families living in poverty to achieve a sound financial future, and the prospect of stronger, safer neighbourhoods and better lives for all Winnipeggers.

What you're really giving is hope -- the perfect gift for everyone.
