Bison football player arrested

A University of Manitoba Bison football player wanted in the United States for extortion was arrested Thursday in Winnipeg.

Earlier in the week, sheriffs in Alberta and the U.S. Marshals Service asked Winnipeg officers for help executing a Canada-wide warrant for the man.

He was arrested Thursday at 4:30 p.m. near the University of Manitoba campus at Kings Drive and Freedman Crescent.

Delano Tennent, 23, of Edmonton, remains in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

Tennent played previously for the Edmonton Wildcats and Minor State University in North Dakota.
