Winnipeg Goldeyes shortstop Price Kendall, 26, was named Thursday to the American Association baseball team that will compete in the Independent Prospect Tournament on Feb. 24-March 4 at St. Petersburg, Florida.
Kendall, the American Association’s rookie of the year last season, will join former Goldeyes in catcher Alan Rick and pitcher Drew Graham on the team. It will be managed by Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks pitching coach Steve Montgomery.
Four teams will play an eight to 10-game schedule with the semifinals scheduled for March 3 and the final on March 4.
The Independent Prospect Tournament will be scouted by Major League teams. It is an opportunity for younger, established independent players to possibly be signed by a Major League organization.
With the Goldeyes in 2011, Kendall had a .324 batting average and played in all 100 games for the Goldeyes. He had two home runs, 54 RBI and a .388 on-base percentage.
