Josh Morrissey assigned to AHL's IceCaps

  • Print

SAN JOSE — The Winnipeg Jets confirmed Thursday they'll assign defenceman Josh Morrissey to the AHL's St. John's IceCaps in the coming days.

Morrissey was selected 13th overall by the Jets at last year.s NHL Draft and spent this season with Western Hockey League's Prince Albert Raiders where he was named a first-team all-star and is a finalist for the league's defenceman-of-the-year award.

Morrissey's Raiders were bounced in straight games by the Edmonton Oil Kings from the WHL playoffs Wednesday night. The IceCaps sit second in the AHL¹s Atlantic Division with a record of 41-21-4 and are setting up for a playoff run. Morrissey, who had 28 goals and 73 points in 59 games this season, will get a chance to taste the pro game with the IceCaps in the post-season.

Next fall, however, the Calgary native still has junior eligibility remaining so he'll have to crack the Jets lineup or return to Prince Albert.
