Canada’s national men’s bandy team will be participating in the 2012 Men’s World Bandy Championships to be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan Jan. 30-Feb. 5.
Team Canada, made up mainly of athletes from Winnipeg, will participate in the "B" Pool along with teams from the Netherlands, Latvia, Hungary, and Belarus.
Canada will be led by veteran player Costa Cholakis who will be joined by returning players Mark Ralph, Brandon Element, Nick Mazurak, Brett Gavrailoff and Mike Lintick along with some new players.
"We have a great mix of experience and rookies," said Cholakis. "I am quite impressed with the enthusiasm of the young guys."
The coaches are Goran Svensson and Kennet Johansson of Sweden and the manager is Morris Glimcher of Winnipeg.
In last year’s World Championship in Kazan, the Canadians lost the "B" Pool title to Belarus and have set a goal this year to win the "B" Pool.
Other participating countries in the "A" Pool include Sweden, Finland, Russia, Norway, United States and Kazakhstan while, "C" Pool teams are Japan, Kyrgyzstan and Estonia.
