Trio of wrestlers claim gold in Saskatoon

THREE Winnipeg Wrestling Club grapplers earned gold medals Saturday at the University of Saskatchewan Huskie/Hounds Open Wrestling Tournament in Saskatoon.

Sven Hafemeister overcame a huge hurdle in his first bout, pinning Canadian national team member Daniel Olver of the University of Saskatchewan before moving on to claim gold in the open men's 76-kilogram division. In the final Hafemeister defeated Connor Malloy of the Regina Cougars. Olver took the bronze medal.

In the high school category, Caleb Rutner and Matt Lind also won gold medals. Rutner, a Grade 8 student at River Heights Junior High, won his medal in the 54-kg. division while Lind won in the 82-kg. category.
