The outgoing University of Manitoba Bisons soccer captain has been selected to wear Canada's colours at the 2013 World University Summer Games in Russia.
Julie Lafreniere, 22, was named to the 20-player roster on Thursday, after wrapping up her five-year Bison career this past season. She was captain for three of those seasons.
It's the first time Lafreniere has played for Canada at the Summer Universiade. With the selection, she becomes just the second Bison women's soccer player to join the University Games team. The first, Olympian Desiree Scott, played in the 2007 and 2009 Games.
The squad will head to Kazan, Russia from July 6 to 17. They will open their tournament with a preliminary Pool B game against Mexico on July 5, and will face Ireland on July 7 and China on July 9.
