WINNIPEG - Runners Lisa Wong, 22, Travis Toet, 22, and Zacharie Durand, 22, and pentathlete Deondra Twerdun, 23, have been named captains of the University of Manitoba Bisons track and field team for the 2011-2012 season.

Wong, a fifth-year athlete, is a captain for the third straight year while Toet, a fifth-year athlete, is a captain for the second time while Twerdun and Durand are first-time captains.

"All four of these student-athletes bring numerous years of veteran experience not only at the university level, but also in many provincial and national championships," head coach Claude Berube, who in his 15th season, said in a media release.

Lisa, Travis, Deondra and Zacharie are well respected by their teammates for their strong work ethic and high standards that they set as student-athletes and expect the same from their team members."

The Bisons will compete on Friday and Saturday in the first two meets of the Grand Prix series at the U of M Max Bell Fieldhouse.
