Bisons hosting track meet this weekend
The University of Manitoba Bisons track and field team will host the third annual Bison Classic meet this weekend at the U of M Max Bell Fieldhouse (U of Manitoba campus).
The event, rormerly known as the Cargill Games, will run Friday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. with free admission. There will be over 450 athletes from 10 Canadian universities along, club athletes from Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario as well as some national team athletes.
Manitoba Bisons athletes to watch include Arthur Buchanan in men’s high jump (No. 2 in Canada West), Lacey deJong in the women’s 3000m (No. 4 in Canada West), Wilfred Samking in the men’s 60m (No. 4 in Canada West) and Lisa Wong in the women’s 60m (No. 5 in Canada West).
"We are very pleased to once again host what is always one of the top Canadian university Track & Field meets every year," Bisons track and field head coach Claude Berube said in a statement. "I expect to see great competition in all the events and to see many athletes and relay teams achieve their automatic qualifiers for the 2012 CIS Championships held at Manitoba."
Athletes will looking to qualify for the 2012 Canadian Interuniversity Sport championships which will be hosted by Manitoba on March 8-10.
