Brandon's Neelin squad snags varsity girls championship

The Neelin Spartans of Brandon won the 2012  AAAA Varsity Girls Provincial Volleyball Championship on Monday night defeating the Mennonite Brethren Hawks 3-1 (18-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-20) at the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre.

The Spartans were led by setter and tournament most valuable player Amy Gordon who was also Neelin's top attacker with 11 kills.

The players of the game were Shayna Staerk of the Hawks and Paige Thomson of Neelin. The Players' Choice Award winner was Emily McPherson of the St. Mary's Flames.

Named to the tournament all-star team were: Laura McManes of the Glenlawn Lions, Brianna Solberg of the Miles Macdonell Buckeyes, Neelin's Kristine Ward and Alison Quiring and MBCI's Kalena Schulz and Katie Friesen.
