Girls, boys volleyball champs to be decided tonight

New girls' and boys' champions will be decided tonight in the 2012 Boston Pizza AAAA Provincial High School Volleyball Championships at the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre.

For the first time since 2003-2004, the champions could be two teams from the same school.

The Mennonite Brethren Hawks, the No. 1 seed on both the girls' and the boys' sides, have each earned berths in their respective championship final matches.

On the girls' side, the Hawks will face the No. 2 seed Neelin Spartans from Brandon at 6 p.m.

At 8 p.m. in the boys' final, the Hawks will take on the second-seeded Lord Selkirk Royals.

In 2003-2004, the Dakota Lancers won both the girls' and boys' AAAA volleyball titles.

Last year's boys' champion Miles Macdonell Buckeyes were defeated in the semifinals last Thursday by the Royals.

The girls' champion from last year, the St. Mary's Academy Flames, were defeated by the Hawks in the quarter-finals.
