Manitoba swimmer takes silver
Manitoba team captain Leah Daniel clocked a Manitoba record time and won a silver medal this afternoon at the Canada Games in Prince Edward Island.
Daniel, 18, swam a time of 16 minutes 33.41 seconds to finish second in her heat of the women’s 1500 metre freestyle. Karyn Elizabeth Jewell of B.C. won the heat in 16:29.45, easily the fastest of the three heats and Daniel was easily in for the silver, Manitoba’s fourth silver and eighth medal of these games.

Manitoba’s Chantal Asselin was the winner of her 1500 metre free heat but eighth overall in the event.
Daniel’s time was 19.5 seconds better than her March provincial record swim.
Late this afternoon, Winnipeg’s Chantal Grant won a bronze medal on the track in the women’s 100 metres.
Grant was third in the final with a time of 12.04 seconds, behind winner Loudia Laarman of Alberta.
