Pembina Valley Hawks to play for gold

The Pembina Valley Hawks AAA female midget hockey team will play for gold on Saturday at the 2012 Esso Cup national championship.

Cassidy Carels of Bruxelles scored both Hawks’ goals, including the game-winner on the power play early in the third period, in a 2-1 win over the Edmonton Thunder (West) in Friday’s semifinal game to send the Hawks to the gold-medal game.

Hawks goaltender Brittni Mowat of Glenboro, named the tournament’s top goaltender, made 22 saves for the win.

Pembina Valley will meet the Thunder Bay Queens of Ontario in the final game at 3 p.m. which will be televised on TSN. The game is in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
