The Oak Park Raiders defeated the defending champion Glenlawn Lions at the Investors Group Athletic Centre Monday night to become the new AAAA high school varsity girls provincial champions.
It came right down to the wire, with the score tied at 65 with only a minute left in regulation time. The Raiders ultimately triumphed 71-65, thanks to a three-point shot and a pair of fouls that led to free-throw baskets with under 30 seconds left to go.
The win caps off a perfect season for the Raiders.
In a stunning varsity boys final, the Garden City Fighting Gophers successfully defended their championship against the Sisler Spartans.
After trailing by double-digits for more than half the game, the Gophers made up 15 points in the third quarter and tied it up in the fourth, trading the lead with the Spartans in the dying minutes of the game.
Finally, thanks to a Josh Magpantay three-pointer, the Gophers won 87-84.
