Prep school hockey players from across Canada will converge on Winnipeg in March, as St. Mary’s Academy gears up to host the 2014 Female World Sport School Challenge.
The tournament, now in its second year – both times hosted by St. Mary’s – offers top female hockey players a chance to play in front of college scouts from Canadian and American programs. It will feature eight teams, including Balmoral Hall and Shaftesbury Hockey Academy, Banff Hockey School, Calgary’s defending champion Edge School for Athletes, Edmonton’s St. Francis Xavier, Kelowna’s Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy and New Brunswick’s Rothesay Netherwood School.
St. Mary’s is a young "sport school" under Hockey Canada’s 17-school program, having become an official Hockey Canada sport school in 2011.
The tournament kicks off at MTS Iceplex with preliminary action on March 13 and 15, relegation and semifinals on March 15 and the medal games on March 16.
