Defenceman Thomas Lenchyshyn of Steinbach is the first Manitoba player to be selected at today’s 2012 WHL Bantam Draft in Calgary.
Lenchyshyn was chosen by the Lethbridge Hurricanes with the 18th pick in today’s first round.
Lenchyshyn, 15, played this season for the Eastman Selects Midget AAA team.
Also in the first round, Winnipegger Keegan Kolesar was selected by the Seattle Thunderbirds with the 20th pick.
Kolesar, 15, is a right-winger who played for the Winnipeg Hawks bantams.
The Brandon Wheat Kings, with their first pick, 12th overall, chose centre Braylon Schmyr from Calgary.
