Three track and field athletes with provincial records will be going to Colombia and represent Canada at the Pan Am Junior Championships.
Julia Zrinyi of Stride Ahead Tough Track and Alhaji Mansaray and Eric Guy of Winnipeg Optimist Athletics will wear the maple leaf in Medellin, Colombia this Aug. 23-25. All three athletes are ranked number one in the nation in their events.
Zrinyi is fresh off gold medal performances at both the Canada Summer Games and Canadian Juniors. She will compete in the 1500m race at the Pan Am Junior Championships. Zrinyi is Manitoba’s best, setting the Manitoba provincial record in the junior women’s 1500m this summer with a time of 4:16.49.
Mansaray earned two silver medals at the Canada Games and the Canadian Juniors in addition to a gold medal at the Canada West Challenge in high jump. His gold medal jump at the Canada West Challenge earned him the Manitoba provincial record with a jump of 2.19m.
Guy won two bronze medals at the Canadian Juniors, one in the 110m hurdles and another in the 400m hurdles. At the Canada West Challenge Guy won gold in the 110m hurdles and set a new Provincial record with a time of 14.16. Guy will run the 110m hurdles at the Pan Am Juniors.
