Wesmen coach McKay nominated for Women of Distinction award

WINNIPEG -- Winnipeg Wesmen women's head basketball coach Tanya McKay has been nominated for a YMCA-YWCA Women of Distinction award in the category of education, training and mentorship.

The award recognizes an outstanding woman who is an education or mentor in many avenues of life and inspires a passion for person growth, development and life-long learning through the education system, employee training and development, community education or alternative programs. She may be developing innovative programs and/or building a strong rapport with learners, parents, colleagues or the community at large to foster learning in a broader sense.

McKay just completed an 18th season as the school's women's head basketball coach, with an impressive 98 per cent graduation rate among her players.

The 2014 Women of Distinction Awards Gala takes place Wed., May 7 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
