Winnipeg's Leipsic named WHL player of week
A nine-point outburst in three games last week has earned Portland Winterhawks forward Brendan Leipsic of Winnipeg the Denny's Western Hockey League player of the week award.
Leipsic, 18, scored three goals and had six assists along with a plus-5 rating to help Portland win all three games.
In last Wednesday's 3-0 shut out of the Vancouver Giants, he assisted on all three goals. Last Friday, Leipsic scored a goal and added an assist in a 4-2 win over the Kootenay Ice. In Portland's 8-2 victory last Saturday over the Seattle Thunderbirds, he had two goals and two assists and was named the game's first star.
Leipsic, a 2012 NHL draft pick of the Nashville Predators, is fifth in WHL scoring with 15 goals and 23 assists for 38 points in 22 games so far this season. It is his third full season with the Winterhawks.
