Wytinck named Bisons athlete of the week

WINNIPEG -- Manitoba Amateur golf champion Josh Wytinck is the University of Manitoba Bisons male athlete of the week.

Wytinck led the Bisons to their fifth team title of the fall season by sparking a come-from-behind victory at the Prairie University Golf Championships in Saskatoon over the weekend.

Wytinck shot 72-70-142 for a two-under-par total for the two days as the Bisons rallied from three shots down after the opening round and defeated Mount Royal University of Calgary.

Wytinck is the third Manitoba Bisons golfer to be the school’s athlete of the week this fall. Teammates Charlie Boyechko and Bryce Barr have also won the honour.

The weekend victory automatically qualifies the Bisons for next spring’s Canadian University/College Championship.

Third-year guard Sheree Carmona-Galdamez is the U of M’s female athlete of the week.

In the team’s season-opening pre-season tournament at the U of Winnipeg, Carmona-Galdamez was named a tournament all-star after scoring 43 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in three games.

Her best outing was a 23-point game with eight rebounds in 38 minutes of playing time in a 60-54 win over Lakehead on Sunday.
