CHRISTINA POSTHUMUS of the Kildonan East Reivers basketball team and Braden Calvert of the Carberry curling team are the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association's athletes of the week.

Posthumus, the Home Run Sports Urban High School athlete of the week, is a 6-2 forward who was an all-star at the Daniel McIntyre, Lord Selkirk and Transcona tournaments and the MVP at the Kildonan East tournament.

Calvert, the Tri-Star Rural High School athlete of the week, skipped his curling team to the boys' title at the 2013 Provincial High School Curling Championships last weekend.

Canadian national men's volleyball player Justin Duff of Winnipeg scored 10 points in a losing cause for his professional team from Izmir, Turkey, on Tuesday in a decisive men's Champions League semifinal match.

Izmir lost to Kedzierzyn-Kozle, Poland, 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, giving the Polish squad a 2-0 series win and a ticket to the Champions League Final Four tournament.

Kristen Campbell of the Westman Wildcats recorded five shutouts in six games, all wins, last month to be named the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League's Goaltender Development Institute goalie of the month.

Forward Sheridan Oswald of the Central Plains Capitals is the Selkirk Keystone Source for Sports-Reebok player of the week after she sniped 11 points (four goals and seven assists) in three Capitals' wins last week.

In the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League (male), a seven-point week saw Shawn Bowles of the Yellowhead Chiefs selected the Chicken Chef West Division player of the week. He had five goals and two assists.

Goaltender Mario Petit of Eastman Selects was chosen the DEKALB East Division player of the week, as he has been in net for five of Eastman's seven wins this season.
