Schussler wins gold
TWO-TIME Olympian speed skater Brittany Schussler of Winnipeg captured gold in the women's 3,000-metres event at the 2013 Canadian Single Distance Championships at the Calgary Olympic Oval last weekend.
Schussler skated a season's best 4:09.51 edging out teammates Christine Nesbitt and Cindy Klassen, also of Winnipeg, who earned silver and bronze in times of 4:09.79 and 4:10.02 respectively.
"The race was hard, that's a definite. The three-K (3,000 metres) is always a hard one," said Schussler in a press release. "Being in the second last pair, I actually thought the ice was going to be fast today. I went for it and barely held on to it. When I was done I didn't think it was a great time. I thought it was a good time."
Schussler added a silver in the Women's 1500m event clocking a time of 1:58.47.
