JUSTIN Duff of Winnipeg recorded six points for Canada's national men's volleyball team in a straight-sets victory over Puerto Rico on Monday at the 2011 Pan Am Cup tournament in Gatineau, Que.
Canada, who got 14 points from Gavin Schmidtt (Saskatoon) and seven from Nicholas Cundy (Edmonton), defeated Puerto Rico 25-17, 25-17, 25-17.
The Pan Am Cup is a 10-team international tournament. The top two teams will earn berths in the prestigious World League tournament. It also marks the start of the road to qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Duff, a former member of the University of Winnipeg Wesmen, is the only Winnipeg native on the team. Libero Dan Lewis (Oakville, Ont.) and middle Steve Brinkman (Bowmanville, Ont.) are former members of the University of Manitoba Bisons.
Canada, playing in group B, will meet the Dominican Republic on Wednesday.
The Dominican Republic plays its first match against Puerto Rico today.
The playoffs begin Thursday and the gold-medal match will be played Saturday
