Hawrysh 4th at Whistler
Brandon athlete making impact in skeleton

It's back-to-back fourth-place finishes for Brandon's Cassie Hawrysh on the World Cup women's skeleton tour.
This season, the 28-year-old Neelin High School graduate is competing against the best in the world for the first time. She raced to a two-run combined time of 1:51.19 at the Olympic track in Whistler, B.C., to finish just .27 seconds behind gold-medallist Marion Thees of Germany. Hawrysh was in second place after her first run, but slipped to fourth on her second run down the course.
"Today was great,"àHawrysh told Bobsleigh Skeleton Canada. "I was ahead for the first part and through the bottom I was steering a bit too hard, but that's racing.
"It is not frustrating to be fourth yet. It is an Olympic qualifier, and this whole season has been a great experience. Each race has taught me something different. This sport and I really clicked, and to be able to stand up with the best girls and race, is exactly where I want to be."
Canada's Sarah Reid was second, while reigning Olympic silver medallist Mellisa Hollingsworth placed fifth as the Canadians took three of the top five spots Friday.
Hawrysh now has two fourth-place finishes and an 11th-place performance in her three races this season to sit tied with Germany's Anja Huber for sixth place in the world standings with 520 points. Just as important, Hawrysh has now earned two of the three Olympic qualifying results (top-six finishes) she needs this season in order to be in the running to make the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Today, the men hit the sleds, with Russell's Jon Montgomery returning to the track where he won gold for Canada in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
