Jets' bench boss headline act at Bisons' hockey fundraiser

WINNIPEG Jets head coach Claude Noel will be the special guest at the annual fundraising dinner for the University of Manitoba Bisons men's and women's hockey programs next Monday.
Proceeds from the evening will go to support student athletic scholarships and general program needs of the Bison women's and men's hockey programs.
As the special guest, Noel will participate in a short question-and-answer session after dinner.
Tickets ($150 each, corporate tables $1,200) are available at www.gobisons.ca.
"We continue to build on this annual fundraising event and appreciate the support of the Winnipeg Jets organization as last year Kevin Cheveldayoff (Jets executive vice-president and general manager) attended and we're more than pleased that Claude Noel could be able to make time in a tremendously fast-paced Jets schedule to be special guest this year," Bisons women's hockey head coach Jon Rempel said in a statement. "This will be another fantastic evening and chance for people to assist both Bison hockey programs."
A bandy silver for Canada
CANADA'S national men's bandy team earned a silver medals last Saturday in the B-pool of the 2013 World Bandy Championship at Vetlanda, Sweden, losing 4-2 to the USA in the final game.
Canada's Mike Lintick was named the top goaltender and Brandon Ellement was named the top forward in the event.
The Winnipeg-based Team Canada came back from an early 3-0 deficit with a late first-half goal by Curtis Krul and an early second-half goal by Ellement to trail by just one. In the final minute, USA's Jon Keseley scored the insurance marker. USA will advance to the A-pool in 2014.
Blues' Morris nabs puck honour
JARED MORRIS of the Winnipeg Blues has been named the Recycle Everywhere-Manitoba Junior Hockey League player of the week.
Morris, 19, scored 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) in four victories last week. The Blues lead the Addison division with 32 wins.
Nikolic, Wesley tops for Wesmen
OZANA NIKOLIC of the women's volleyball team and Steven Wesley of the men's basketball team have been named the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Pizza Hotline players of the week.
Nikolic was a key player in the Wesmen earning a split with the No. 3-ranked Alberta Pandas last weekend in Edmonton. Nikolic had 34 kills, 18 digs, two blocks and two aces in the two matches. Wesley scored 44 points and had 23 rebounds in a pair of home-court losses to the Calgary Dinos last weekend.
