TWO junior women's teams and two junior men's teams earned provincials berths at CurlManitoba's Canola Junior Men's and Women's Berth Bonspiels on Sunday at the Petersfield Curling Club.
Earning spots in the 2012 Canola Junior Provincial Championships set for Jan. 3-7, 2013 at the Brandon Curling Club were Alyssa Vandepoele, Rachel Burtnyk, Austin Mustard and Daniel Birchard.
The teams gained the berths by winning their semifinal games.
On the junior women's side, Vandepoele of Victoria beat Beth Peterson of Victoria 9-4 and Burtnyk of Assiniboine defeated Abby Ackland of Victoria 6-4.
In the junior men's draw, Mustard of Portage la Prairie edged Hayden Forrester of Pembina 6-5 and Birchard of Pembina defeated Cole Peters of West St. Paul 7-5.

ON the women's World Curling Tour, the Chelsea Carey team of Morden and the Jennifer Jones team of Winnipeg each earned A-qualifier berths in today's quarter-final round of the $36,000 Red Deer Curling Classic in Alberta. First place carries a $9,500 prize.
The Barb Spencer and Jill Thurston teams from Winnipeg were eliminated Saturday on the C-side of the triple-knockout event.

RIVER East Kodiaks forward Elsie Edginton scored six of her team's seven goals in a 7-1 victory over the Westwood Warriors last week to be named the Winnipeg Free Press Division B player of the week in the Winnipeg Women's High School Hockey League.
Emily Middagh of the Kelvin Clippers was named the CTV Division A player of the week as she scored a pair of goals to help her team defeat the SJR Eagles 4-1 and then scored another two goals two days later in a 3-2 win over the Louis Riel Voyageurs.

GUILLAUME Naud of the Dauphin Kings, David Haaf of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines, Justin McDonald of the OCN Blizzard and Tristan Keck of the Winkler Flyers have been selected as the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's top players in October.
Naud, 20, scored 17 points (7-10) during a 12-game span and is the RBC player of the month. The Sherwood Hockey defenceman of the month is Haaf, 20, who had 13 points in 12 games. McDonald is the MGEU goalie of the month. The 20-year-old posted a 2.63 GAA, .922 save percentage and a 6-2 record, including two shutouts last month. The IBAM rookie of the month is Keck, a 17-year-old forward who recorded 14 points in 10 games.
