Crusaders crack top-10
THE St. Paul's Crusaders received top-10 mention in the CanadaFootballChat.com final national high school rankings.
The Crusaders went 10-0 on their season and finished with a championship-game 25-15 victory over the Miles Macdonell Buckeyes in the final game ever at CanadInns Stadium.
It was St. Paul's' third AAA title in the last four years.
The No. 1 overall national ranking went to Seminaire Saint-Francois Blizzard (11-0) from Saint-Augustin, Que.
Nikolic a feared killer
OZANA Nikolic and Steven Wesley have been selected as the Unviersity of Winnipeg Wesmen Pizza Hotline players of the week for action through Sunday.
Nikolic, of the women's volleyball team, sparked a home sweep over the Brandon Bobcats with 41 kills, 22 digs, three aces and two blocks in the two-match series.
In Thursday's straight-sets win, Nikolic had 17 kills alone, finishing with a .696 hitting percentage.
Wesley, from the men's basketball squad, was chosen for the second time this season for the award, helping his team to back-to-back weekend victories in Canada West play.
The fourth-year forward scored 32 points and added 17 rebounds, six assists and three steals in the home victories over UBC Okanagan and Thompson Rivers.
Sweet week for Oswald
FORWARD Courtlyn Oswald of the Central Plains Capitals is the Selkirk Keystone Source For Sports Reebok Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League player of the week after scoring five goals in two games last week.
Oswald, a MacGregor native, is now fourth in MFMHL scoring with 15 points.
She had six points in the two wins last week and leads the Capitals in scoring this season.
The MFMHL Goaltender Development Institute goalie of the month is Brittni Mowat of the Pembina Valley Hawks.
Mowat, a Glenboro native, finished November action with a 3-0-1 record to move to 6-0-2 on the season and leads the league with a save percentage of .979 and a goals-agaisnt average of .50 for the first-place Hawks.
Friesen sparks Steelers
HUDSON Friesen of the Selkirk Steelers is the Recycle Everywhere Manitoba Junior Hockey League Player of the Week for action ending Sunday.
Friesen, a 19-year-old from Oakbank, recorded four goals and five points in two victories for the Steelers, helping the team extend its winning streak to three games.
Runners-up for the award were Tyler Grove of the OCN Blizzard and Zack Waldvogel of the Portage Terriers.
