Pulock, Bowey chosen for Top Prospects Game

MANITOBANS Ryan Pulock of the Brandon Wheat Kings and Madison Bowey of the Kelowna Rockets have been selected to participate in the Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Jan. 16, 2013 at Halifax.

Bowey, a defenceman from Winnipeg, will play on Team Orr, which will be coached by Mike McPhee. Pulock, a defenceman from Grandview, will play on Team Cherry, which will be coached by Don Cherry.

The Top Prospects game is a showcase of the CHL's top 40 NHL draft-eligible players. The players were chosen from the Canadian Hockey League's three regional leagues by representatives from the 30 NHL clubs. Pulock and Bowey are among 14 players picked from the WHL.

Siwicki breaks own record

BREANNE Siwicki of the Manta Swim Club broke her own national age-group record and six provincial records last weekend at the Paul Bergen Junior International Invitational meet in Portland, Ore.

In the 400-metre individual medley, Siwicki's time of 4:35.85 beat her former national age-group record she set Nov. 30 at the Pan Am Pool by nearly 2.5 seconds. Siwicki has improved her 400 IM time by seven seconds since mid-November.

At Oregon, Wyatt Yarish, also of Manta, broke two of his own provincial records in the 400-metre freestyle and 1,500-metre freestyle.

Bisons players week's best

WOMEN'S volleyball player Rachel Cockrell and men's basketball player Kevin Oliver have been selected the University of Manitoba Bisons Smitty's athletes of the week.

Second-year left-side Cockrell led her team in kills (14) and points (18) in Manitoba's three-set win over the Winnipeg Wesmen and and was named the Bisons' player of the game in last week's Duckworth Challenge match.

Oliver, a fifth-year guard, was the Bisons' player of the game in the men's basketball portion of the Duckworth Challenge. He recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in his team's 74-71 loss to the Wesmen.

Expert to teach hoopsters

BASKETBALL shooting consultant Dave Love, who has worked with numerous NBA players, will hold a shooting clinic Saturday at Winnipeg's Oak Park High School for youth players ages 11 and up.

Two clinics will be held -- 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. To register, go to the services page of www.theloveofthegame.com. The cost is $49.95.

Love worked for the past eight years with the University of Calgary Dinos and was part of Canada's national men's basketball team staff at last summer's training camp.
