Winnipegger Taylor Pischke has set qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio as a goal. Pischke and teammate Melissa Humana-Parades are currently ranked 47th in the world and are Canada’s third-best team in the rankings.
The Road to Rio won't be easy.
The men's and women's beach volleyball events in 2016 will see 24 teams in each gender, with one place reserved for the host country in each case.
The Rio 2016 Olympic Games Qualification system will also see one place per gender granted to the winning national federation of the 2015 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships.
The remaining 22 spots will be filled through Olympic Rankings and winners of the Continental Cups. This also includes a maximum of two places per country.
The Olympic Ranking is established based on the FIVB World Ranking points earned at the 12 best performances as a team in the World Championships, World Tour events and recognized Continental Tour Finals (best of the two results) from January 1, 2015 until June 12, 2016.
