Shuttlecock elites coming to Winnipeg

TOP-CALIBRE badminton is coming to Winnipeg in the form of an exhibition match that will include Canadian Olympian Tony Ng.

Ng, who competed at the London Games, and his brother Tony, a member of Team Canada, will be part of the exhibition doubles match at Winnipeg Winter Club Dec. 30 at 1 p.m.

The duo, who will be in Winnipeg to conduct a four-day training camp for Team Manitoba and select junior players, will be teaming up with top local players in this high-performance doubles competition.

Admission to the match is free to the public.

Dauphin hosting wing-ding

The Parkland Rangers will be hosting this season's Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League all-star game and banquet.

The events, including the 3:30 p.m. game, are scheduled for Jan. 12 at Dauphin's Recreation Centre and Credit Union Place.

The league expects to announce its all-star team selections later in December.

Soccer stars off to London

Three Winnipeg Phoenix Football Club members have been accepted to a college showcase event in London, England.

Jasmine Lotey (under-13 premier girls), Brooke Richtik (under-18 premier girls) and Megan Diamond (senior women's program and Portage Trail SC) will play before scouts and American college coaches and recruiters Dec. 14 in the firstpoint USA 2012 Soccer Showcase.

The event takes place at one of Europe's top soccer venues, the London Soccerdome, the largest indoor football arena in Europe.

All three will be placed on teams with players from Europe and the U.K., vying for scholarships and attention from staff at top U.S. schools.
