Wesmen sanctioned

CANADIAN Interuniversity Sport has disciplined the University of Winnipeg's men's soccer team for using an uneligible player for two exhibition games and four regular-season games this season.

As a result, the squad was required to forfeit two wins and a tie.

The athlete, who was not identified by CIS, does not face sanctions but was already considered ineligible for the fall season.

The infraction was deemed unintentional but the U of W, which disclosed the violation, was fined $4,250 and placed on probation for 24 months but can continue to participate in Canada West and CIS competition.
