Winnipeggers medal at wrestling championships

THREE Winnipeggers won medals at the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Championships in Regina on the weekend, and a fourth just missed out.

Sven Hafenmeister won gold in the 74-kg Greco class and Renier Corrales-Garcia took home silver in the 96-kg event at the senior level. Aislynn Torfason, meanwhile, brought home silver in the 59-kg class in the junior category.

Torfason, who competes for Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ont., earned a trip to Guadalajara, Mexico, for the Junior Pan Am Championships in June. Another Winnipeg Wrestling Club member, Liz Sera of the University of Western Ontario, finished fourth in the 59-kg class.
