TORONTO -- For the second straight year, the Toronto Blue Jays are shutting down slugger Jose Bautista early.
The Jays announced Wednesday the right-fielder will finish the season on the disabled list. Bautista, 32, who has been on the DL for the last two weeks, was diagnosed with a femur bone bruise that's expected to be fully healed in time for the start of spring training.
"Not exactly the news i was hoping to announce...its a bittersweet day (injury is healing but not enough games left in season to come back)," Bautista said via Twitter.
Last year, the four-time all-star and two-time home-run champion's season ended with left wrist surgery.
Bautista led the majors in homers in 2010 and '11. This season in 118 games, he was hitting .259 with 28 homers and 73 RBI.
