Canadian Josh Naylor selected to play in Perfect Game All-American Classic

OTTAWA - Canadian junior national baseball team member Josh Naylor has been selected on Sunday to participate in the Perfect Game All-American Classic as a member of the West squad.

The game, which features 54 of the top high schoolers eligible for the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, is generally known as the premiere high school baseball All-Star game in North America.

"It's an honour to be selected to participate in this game," said 17-year-old Naylor, who will become just the second Canadian to ever play in the Perfect Game All-American Classic. "The opportunity to play with and against the top high school talent in North America on a big-league stage is something I am looking forward to."

The first baseman from Mississauga, Ont., participated in the Junior Select Home Run Derby during MLB's All-Star break at Target Field in Minneapolis and finished runner up to Luken Baker, a catcher/right-handed pitcher from Conroe, Tex.

In 2013, Toronto's Gareth Morgan was the first Canadian to participate in the Perfect Game All-American Classic and last month was selected 74th overall in the MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners.

This year's game will take place at Petco Field in San Diego on Aug. 10th.
