Goldeyes catcher named player of the week

  • Print

After an explosive performance on the road, Winnipeg Goldeyes catcher Luis Alen was named the American Association’s player of the week on Monday.

In seven road games against the Sioux Falls Canaries and the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, Alen scored hits on a full half of his 24 at-bats. In fact, he notched a hit in all seven tilts, and had multiple hits in five of those. After a slow start out of the gate, the road swing raised Alen’s season batting average to .333, up from .244 before the Fish left on the road trip.

His stand-out performance came in Fargo on Sunday, where he batted in three runs to help lift the Goldeyes to a 7-4 win over the RedHawks, snapping an eight-game losing streak in Fargo that stretched back to last season.

The Fish finished the road trip 5-2, including a four-game sweep of the Canaries.

The Goldeyes open a six-game homestand tomorrow night, with the first of three against the visiting Grand Prairie Airhogs.
